Protein vs. Carbohydrates



It is very common among athletes to consume protein shaker immediately post training, and avoid carbs. While post workout protein consumption is needed, It is also not ideal!


PROTEIN

You've trained and strained your muscles, protein is essential within an hour of training to replenish your body with amino acids for muscle synthesis process to occur. Better consumed in a liquid form as its absorbed quicker.


CARBOHYDRATES

After training your body have consumed all stored energy, some damage has been done to the muscles, therefore your body is ready to receive replenishment. Also, The quicker you consume carbs, the quicker you'll get your body to shift out of stress mode towards "Rest and Digest".


BITTOM LINE

Remember, a shaker is just supplement replacing a meal for easier consumption and faster absorption. Therefore, think of you shaker as a whole meal; keep your shaker balanced among all 3 macros: Protein, Carbs, and Fat.
